Makeup,  Project Pan

Embarking on a #ProjectPan

There’s a constant war between my Kondo-strategy of ridding myself of things that don’t bring me joy and my intense love of a good sale. As such, I find that there are so many products I love but have stocked up on a little too seriously, leaving me with three back up conditioners in a world where I am in need of shampoo. Riddle me that.

I recently heard about Project Pan. The concept is taking makeup/beauty products and focusing on using them until you hit pan, the shiny tin under the product. In other words, using them up. For some people this is about using up aging products. For others, this is about forcing yourself to use items before allowing yourself to purchase the newer, shinier model. For others still, this is about simple decluttering.

I delved into my makeup and skin care to find items I could use in this decluttering project. I gathered them together and am focusing on the following for the month of October.

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleanser (Boxycharm Item, Retails $47)
I don’t use face products enough, and while I love the way this one feels, I am looking forward to clearing it out from under the bathroom sink. I suspect the next month of my Project Pan may focus entirely on face products and lotions.

Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte in 103, Natural Buff (Retails $12.99)
I have been alternating this with another foundation that’s slightly more high coverage. I like the mattifying effects of this, but I think I need a slightly lighter shade. I’ll be focusing on using this up.

Mary Kay Concealer in Beige 2 (They don’t even make this anymore!)
I used to live and die by this concealer when I was in high school. As I grew up, the formula changed or something. Because I almost never want to reach for this concealer. The girl who helped everyone else conceal their hickeys before homeroom (me) has to find another concealer product, but not before I use this one.

Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Concealer in Light/Medium (Retails $7.99)
This formula is super lightweight, almost to the point of being watery. And forget it if you’re looking for a product that builds well. After I figure out which mascara is my holy grail (stay tuned for info on that search), I’ll be on the hunt for a better concealer. But until then, I’ve got to use this.

Pixi Beauty Mini Brow Trio (Ipsy Item, Full Brow Palette Retails $12)
I’ve already hit pan on the darkest color. I don’t anticipate using up the other two shades, but I think I can finish off the darkest shade of this tiny product.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 011 Creamy Natural (Retails $5.79)
I love this shade, but I’ve had some issues with the powder “hard pan”ing, developing that icky, shiny surface after contact with face oils. I have removed that extra amount and am ready to totally finish this product.

Hikari Black Eyeliner (Boxycharm Item, Retails $13)
I used to love this pencil, but now I feel it doesn’t stay well in my waterline. I’m looking forward to finishing it and moving on. Hopefully upcoming Halloween will give me some opportunities for smudgey gothic eye looks.

Totally unknown blush
If I had to guess, I would bet this blush came from a blush and bronzer palette I got in my Boxycharm once upon a time. However, I went through a very interesting depotting phase, tossed the colors I never used, and only have this remaining. My depotting wasn’t great, so it does tend to crack despite my best efforts to keep it together. Is that a sign it’s too aged? I don’t know for sure. But I’m going to use it until there’s little else to use.

Wish me luck on this new adventure, and let me know if you’ve done anything similar.
