I know how cliche it is to comment on the speed with which time passes. But dang, this year is flying by. And this little project pan is no exception.
But, the Fourth of July has come and gone. So here are my results.
Smashbox Light It Up Contour (This is one of three mini palettes that were in the Smashbox Light It Up Kit from 2016, the whole set retailed for $45. The closest available item is this Smashbox Contour Kit.)
First off, thanks for everyone’s patience with my complete inability to photograph these. And the inconsistency between them. I am still astounded I haven’t hit pan on the contour shade. Hitting pan on the contour shade was my goal. You can see a pretty big dip, but it’s nothing compared to the brightening powder.
I really do want to try the Kat von D contour kit, but with her recent scandals (and a few contour kits coming in Boxycharm), I don’t think I will be trying it. I do like this powder, if it’s the same as their contour kit, I would repurchase.
I finished this product right after putting up my intro to this pan.
Boom. Completed. More or less, I’m not one to dig out the remaining product for lip products. Putting two lip products in this project wasn’t my best move, though.
I still don’t like the waxy scent to this, but it was hydrating and a really nice nude shade.
Bite Beauty Mini Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Chai (Sephora Birthday Gift 2018; Full size is $26. Value of sample is $8.67.)
I did not reach my goal with this one. But I’m pleased with myself and the progress I did make. It’s hard to pan lip color, especially when you’re panning a more convenient neutral shade at the same time.
Too Cool for School Egg Mellow Lotion (Sample Size from Birchbox; Full size is $36. Value of sample is $10.23.)
I finished this one in the last update. I would not repurchase.
The Body Shop Mango Body Butter (Large tub, $30.)
This is a great example of why panning can be useful. I would’ve kept this around forever. I didn’t officially complete it by July 4th. But I will finish it very soon and move on to the very last of my collection of lotions.
L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte in 103, Natural Buff (Retails $12.99)
I was so sure that I would complete this product, that when I started writing out my updates a week ago, I wrote that I’d completed this. Every single time I use it, I’m sure it’s the end of the product. And every time I manage to squeeze out some more.
Blinc Eyeshadow Primer (Boxycharm Points Purchase, $26)
As I suspected, panning this product is forcing me to use it more frequently. I’ve found that I’m getting less product on the doe-foot applicator when I use it. So far it’s not even close to being finished, though. Luckily, my goal for this was just to use eyeshadow more frequently by also using this.
Winky Lux Uni-Brow Universal Brow Pencil (Boxycharm Item, $12)
This is another one I honestly thought I’d use up by the time I posted this update. But I did also have two eyebrow products in this pan. I will not repurchase this. I don’t love the look I get with it. But it is
As always, I’m surprised at how much some of these products last, and I’m proud of myself for thinking about how much I already have. Project panning is such an exciting way to use makeup. You explore the products you have, and learn how to use them in fun ways. It forces you to become more skilled. And it definitely detracts from the urge to buy more. I’ve even been tempted to cancel my much beloved Boxycharm as I find that I’m acquiring makeup far faster than I can use it.
While keeping a rolling project pan was part of my 2018 goals, I am going to take a short break before introducing my next one. I think I can swing a couple of weeks without ruining my official streak. I want to do some more experimenting rather than feeling like I have to use certain products.
Maybe while I’m not panning I’ll finally teach myself about lighting and photography so future product updates to include horrible photographs. No promises though!
